Assistance Dog Information
Information on assistance dogs can be difficult to find so we have created a nice central hub to some useful information pages below
ADUK is a coalition of assistance dog charities that have been accredited by Assistance Dog International and/or the International Guide Dog Federation. ADUK members are not for profit organisations that work to high standards of animal welfare and training. They have an information hub on their website as well as the details of all of their member organisations. Additionally they have details on volunteering and job vacancies within the organisations too.
Canine Access To Education UK (CATE UK) is another information hub for anyone interested in assistance dogs that are based within the UK. They have information on their website detailing guides for businesses on welcoming customers with assistance dogs, learning resources and have a list of assistance dog providers which include both ADUK and non-ADUK charities. The website is filled with useful information!
The Equality Act 2010 is the piece of legislation that protects assistance dog handlers from experiencing disability discrimination within England, Scotland and Wales. The Equality and Human Rights Commission has created two guides detailing business owners responsibilities of assistance dogs. Assistance Dogs: A Guide for all Businesses explains what an assistance dog is, why they should be welcomed into businesses, legal obligations of the business owner and where to find further advice. Take the Lead: A Guide to Welcoming Customers with Assistance Dogs explains what an assistance dog is, why they should be welcomed by tourism businesses, legal obligations of the service providers and where to find further information.
